If Lynch is drawn toward the same types (and archetypes) in movie after movie, it’s not out of laziness or a lack of inspiration but a helpless devotion to his own artistic compulsions. Great directors are repeat offenders, and their recidivism is unconscious. Given these beginnings, it’s easy to see why the resulting cinematic salvage job-mostly financed by French producers before premiering at Cannes in 2001-turned into such a sour allegory of L.A.’s assembly-line creative process, imagining a movie industry haunted by violence and despair and overrun at its highest level by thugs and know-nothings (one of whom is very particular about his coffee). Originally written and shot as a 90-minute pilot, the project first enticed and then alienated ABC executives in interviews, Lynch recalled how one suit with his finger on the green light watched the first cut standing up at six in the morning with coffee in hand. The smashed television set that inaugurates Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me served as a ready-made symbol of Lynch’s disillusionment with the prime-time establishment, which is why it was so odd that he tried to hook up with ABC on the first incarnation of Mulholland Drive. On the 20th anniversary of this inexhaustible masterpiece, here are 20 reasons to love it-or maybe 20 attempts to describe exactly what it is. In the two decades since then, Lynch has produced other significant work, but Mulholland Drive still looks like the summative triumph described by Ebert: a movie that works equally well as a gateway into the director’s oeuvre or a culmination of his obsessions and fetishes. When the film was released in October 2001, it proved to be a surprisingly potent box office force, grossing $20 million worldwide and spawning an online cottage industry of essays and explainers showing viewers how to make sense of its fractured, intractable narrative. “David Lynch has been working toward Mulholland Drive all of his career,” wrote Roger Ebert, a longtime skeptic of the director’s neo-surrealist style and methodology. Two years later, though, Lynch returned to mind-fuck form with Mulholland Drive, a Los Angeles–set story about an aspiring actress trying to help a beautiful amnesiac rediscover her identity while showing the town’s power brokers that she’s ready for her close-up. In 1999, David Lynch released The Straight Story, a road movie that was also a detour into G-rated territory as signs of the impending Y2K apocalypse went, the guy behind Eraserhead working for Disney was suitably ominous.

They hang out together, play together and help one another. Molly and Oona have a very good friendship. She even played the tambourine in We Totally Rock! She plays the drums in numerous pop songs during Season 2 such as At the Zoo, Once Upon a Time, Brave, Brave Knights, Nobody Nose! and And I Would Fly. In Big Warm Friendly Smile, she played guitar for the first time on the show. She seems to play in a professional manner like all the other guppies as well. Oona's musical ability is outstanding, like her friends. Oona follows dance steps (normally what Deema does) as seen in the dance song Stick Out Your Wings and Fly. She also doesn't seem to dance that often when she's on her own. Oona can dance very well, which is why she's put in several dance songs. Oona also had a short solo when she was singing The Flutter Guppies Realm Song. Oona sang a solo in Call a Clambulance! (See: A bunch of bones). Since she's not one of the major characters, she's usually in the background. Oona has a high pitched voice which is good for singing solos. In season 1, Oona's voice wasn't really heard, and she normally just said her lines rather than singing them. She also appears to be wearing a one-piece suit, unlike the other two girls, and her eyes are almond-shaped. She wears her hair in pigtails, while Molly and Deema wear their hair without accessories. Oona is the most different out of the girls. At first glance, Oona's skin looks white, but when compared to Deema and Nonny, her skin looks quite yellow. She is the only guppy to have almond shaped eyes, along with Zooli. Her body is slightly thicker than the other guppies. She has a purple tail with wavy pink stripes. She wears a pink star-shaped accessory in her hair. She has amethyst purple hair that is worn in low pigtails with pink ties. Oona remembers that her flower was behind the bench and then it bloomed right on time making it spring! The Spring Chicken wouldn't announce that it's spring unless she saw a flower. She taught the viewers that patience is the best way for happiness. In The Spring Chicken is Coming, she was upset because her flower didn't bloom before the ceremony. In Call a Clambulance! Oona was worried about her fish friend named Avi, who broke his tail while riding his tricycle and Oona got worried that he might be hurt and might not swim ever again. Oona quickly hugged him, happy that he didn't actually disappear. In Bubble-Cadabra! She was seen very worried because she thought that Goby had disappeared until after he re-appeared. She loves to play with the other guppies, she is never afraid of asking questions, and is always happy to learn the answer. She decided to not throw it away, but to recycle it. Grouper what she should do with the paper. She's also eco-friendly, like in Boy Meets Squirrel!, she asked Mr. Oona is kind to Molly, Gil, Goby, Deema and Nonny. Oona has almost gotten angry at least once in season 5. Oona loves to water flowers and she'll take care of any animal or plant. When Oona was first seen in the series, she was seen as an outgoing person, but later in the series, she was more shyer than usual. The film wasn't especially refreshing even for its time, no matter, how much it tried, at least at times, when it wasn't getting too lazy, if not overblown with its exposition and conflicts to truly reward. Alas, screenwriter Evan Hunter can't quite overshadow the limitations in depth within this Hollywood thriller, which are all but overpowered by inspiration to storytelling, sure, but don't do a whole lot at all, much less anything all that uniquely. The script is decent, but it holds problems extending beyond the uneven pacing, particularly within its dramatics, as the personal character conflicts feel a touch too Hollywood in their being histrionic, and working to manufacture some depth to a story of limited weight. Running two hours in length, the film is simply too long, and that's perhaps my biggest problem with it, as the film is all too often all too meandering to be all that engaging, and would be more compelling during its lulls in conflict if it was more genuine. Well, the conflict at least seems underdeveloped, compared to the other aspects of this narrative, whose build-up segment runs for way, way too long, until it begins to feel aimless, just as the relatively tighter body gets to be draggy itself. The film is plenty well-developed, with its characters, and its settings, and even its themes, but not with, of all things, it's conflict, for although I can understand the ambiguity behind the birds' mania, and although they attempt explanations way late into the body of the film, it's hard to get all that invested in a conflict so underdeveloped. I joke, but this was Alfred Hitchcock's last huge hit, insinuating that he had time to make huge hits prior, and that would be great if this film was by any means "soaring" (Ha-ha-ha-caw!), being an unreasonably two hours reasonably well-spent, but not especially smoothly. Well, I can understand why no one wanted to try and evoke thoughts of a film this big by naming his or her film "The Birds", and even why no one made a film before this one that was titled "The Birds", because this film actually came out a couple months before "Surfin' Bird", and it doesn't get any older than that. I can torture you all with this nonsense all night, but in all seriousness, there are so many trite things involving birds that I can't believe this seemingly uncreative title wasn't taken, like, a couple hundred times before and after this film. Seriously, I've heard of California going to the birds, but this is ridiculous. "A-well-a, everybody's heard about the bird, b-b-b-bird, bird, bird, bird is the word!" Man, these birds are bad enough, so one can only imagine what chaos would befall society if the bees got in on this killing spree, John Burroughs. If anyone wants to hear about language crusifictions, you don’t have to go further than hearing ignorant Americans (which is not to say all Americans are like this) attempting to speak Australian English. I like learning from non-native speakers because you genuninely understand the problems that new learners can face. There is no one correct accent in any one language. At the end of the day language is the most powerful means of communication and that is the point of this series – being able to communicate across borders. As I have lived in the mid to north of Spain, I have incredible trouble if I have to go to the south because of the change of accent. Just as in English there are many accents and versions, so too in Spanish. My native Spanish boyfriend and his family have been so impressed with the improvements that I have made thanks to your course. I have found that this course easily breaks down the language and has filled in the missing pieces I need to communicate more fluently. The artwork is horrendous, I’ve already take the trophy box out of my profile presentation because it’s so ugly, and the new collections tab is terrible to navigate. Some of them are ridiculous too, the diamond rosettes won by a single horse for example. If they really wanted to add a new feature, they could’ve left the trophies as they were and just revamped the useless collection tab into a game challenge or achievements tab instead with these tasks. The only thing I like is the rewards for completing trophies, but there was no reason that could’ve been added to the old system without changing anything else.
